Set and Costume Design Tzung-Hui Lauren Lee
The reason to chose the story of babel is to reference Poulenc's relationship with christianity through his life. The story of babel is a metaphor for the ideas of war in the context of world war 2 which is depicted in the metonym of charcoal, the object that carries the scars of history and its original shape before it was burnt. To emphasise this idea of language and difference, I have included to use different dance styles as well.
